Desembermaande is heeldag-nag- by dié kantore. My man het altyd vir my boerseep by ‘n klein winkeltjie gekoop naby Mier. If I could take away stars instead of giving them, I would.ALLE doeane kantore lyk en ruik dieselfde. I cant help but think that Serkis never cared about the series. The tone, and message, of the story is completely overlooked. Gandalf is 100% wrath at all times instead of being the understanding Istari he is shown to be by his actions and long labors. Bilbo is turned into a sniveling charity case and every other hobbit is voiced as a "Witcher 3" videogame peasant. You have 3 character voices: angry medieval lord, stupid/pathetic/sniveling medieval dregs, and standard medieval peasant. Character voices are unilaterally ruined. This might as well be Smaug, as voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, narrating the whole book.
If you want character voices to be absolutely non-representative of their personalities, then look no further than the Serkis recording. You will save yourself mountains of disappointment.
If you are a LotR fan, skip this version and get the Rob Inglis version. This audio rendition is embarassing at best. I read and listen (Rob Inglis and Martin Shaw) to the LotR series, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion several times over each year. If this was not a cash grab, then I have no idea why it was released. I question whether Serkis (Smeagol) even read LotR Thank you for this masterpiece of narration. My mother read these books to me while I was still in the womb, and 56 years later the story remains an essential, vital part of my life. That's some of the highest praise I could ever pay anyone. The only narrators I can think of who would be anywhere near this performance would be Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, or Cate Blanchett, and they wouldn't be better. I'm not finished with these new releases yet, but so far I have not one single complaint to make. He's one of the finest actors of his generation. I knew instantly he would be brilliant, and I was not mistaken. However, when I heard that Andy Serkis was doing a new narration of what I consider some of the finest books ever written in the English language, I just about died.
I own the Rob Inglis narration, and he did quite a decent job.
